Guitarists
are first of all inspired by beauty of sound, so I like my guitars to have an
absolutely beautiful sound quality.
A guitar is different from most other musical instruments in that it can
colour the sound, so it is essential that my guitars
have ample possibilities for colouring
the sound.
For me, a classical concert guitar has to have a
sound that is inspiring for the player. To play music
in an interesting and emotional way, the guitarist must be able to make a
sufficient difference between playing soft and playing loud. So I try to make
guitars with a wide dynamic range.
All the notes of a guitar have to be equal
in strength. This is the only way to make it possible
for the guitarist to do justice to the music he plays. So my guitars have to
have strong trebles and rich basses.
Especially to make very short notes sound well, for example in a tremolo, the
sound of the guitar has to come quickly. My guitars have to react
quickly to the release of the string by the finger.
I find also that a guitar is much more satisfying to play when the
notes have length. This is especially so for the
trebles, which tend to be shorter in length than the basses.
